Rachel used her Kalixa Pay card to help budget for her family holiday

I have taken my Kalixa card abroad twice now and its proved itself invaluable. Not only in saving towards my holiday but also budgeting while I was away. I am completely useless with money and it tends to run through my fingers like water, I haven't managed to have a holiday in 3 years. The Kalixa card has helped me achieve the impossible. In May 2014 I went to Jerez De La Frontera (Mainland Spain) I initially saved for my holiday on my card and then loaded it again prior to my trip to use abroad with half of my spending money with the other half I converted cash into euros. I loved going away with the added security that should I loose my cash or have it stolen, I had my card as a backup and once I spent my cash I could use it for making those all important duty free purchases on the way home.

Using the card abroad to make purchases was plain and simple and exactly the same as using it in the UK and when I withdrew cash the small charge I incurred was clearly explained. I was so impressed with the simplicity of using my Kalixa card I did not hesitate to use it again to travel to Majorca in July 2014 again budgeting for my holiday and then for spending money while I was away.

I am currently saving for a trip to Disneyland Paris and am using my Kalixa card again, I don't know what I ever did without it!

Pass the Passport

We're trying to deal with the Pass the Passport comments and messages coming in as quickly as possible. We're in touch with the ASA who are aware of the promotion. If you believe that you have genuinely won a prize please send us an email, with your personal details, the link or screenshot to pay.support.en@kalixa.com before 15:00 on Saturday 2nd August and we will investigate this for you. In the meantime we really appreciate your patience.

Pass the Passport

Kalixa is proud to be an FCA regulated business and in turn we take the allegations relating to our Pass the Passport Facebook game very seriously indeed. We devised the Pass the Passport game as a way to help our customers get the most out of their Summer and are delighted that, so far, over 3000 people have played the game with 30 people winning prizes so far.

Unfortunately it has been bought to our attention that one Facebook user has illegally compromised the game resulting in that person accessing illegitimate prize win pages. The same user has since shared and posted links (to the higher value prizes) on some internet forums / blogs resulting in a number of users bypassing the actual game and submitting a claim using one of these traceable links. To make sure the game remained fair for everyone who has played using the Facebook App we made the decision that we would only be rewarding winners who have played the game as intended and described in the T&Cs and not from the links that have been made public.

We are obviously very disappointed that the App was able to be compromised in the first place and we are taking this very seriously with our game delivery partner. To avoid any further reputational damage we have made the difficult decision to cancel this promotion. We are able to easily identify the winners who have played the game via the App as per the T&Cs so please rest assured that all genuine prizes won to date are being awarded and received. The remaining prizes that have not yet been won will all be donated to charity.

Going down under with my Kalixa Pay card

My name is Jennifer and I have family that live in Australia.
My mother and I both love Australia, and although we have been there before, we were desperate to go back again.  So last November we went on a trip of a life time that included not only Australia but also Singapore, with a short stop in Dubai both on the way in and out.  I wanted to take a flexible card that I could use in all three different countries and wouldn't need to take lots of different currencies with me.  I also much prefer using a prepaid card to a credit card, as I hate to feel in debt, so a Kalixa Pay card worked just perfectly for me.

We arrived at Changi Airport, in Singapore, at 3 o clock in the afternoon.  We had a quick rest and shower and went straight out on a tour around Singapore.  We had a lovely meal at a fabulous restaurant, and had a walk around the markets of Singapore.  It was just wonderful. We used the taxi service a lot in Singapore, and the taxi drivers take payment cards out there, so the Kalixa Pay card came in very useful for this. During our time in Singapore we also went on a bike ride, which was just fabulous, and then afternoon tea at the Raffles Hotel. I used my Kalixa Pay card there, and the tea and cakes were just amazing. It really was out of this world.

We travelled from Singapore to Darwin, and in Darwin I went swimming with a crocodile! OK, I was in a large plastic box so it was very safe, but still scary! This was at Crocosaurus Cove in the centre of Darwin, and it was just amazing. We also went to Wanggi Falls, which is an absolutely beautiful waterfall in Litchfield National Park. It really was lovely.
Then a few days in Alice Springs, and long enough to visit Ayres Rock, and have champagne at sunset at the foot of the rock, which was just beautiful. We finished our trip around Australia in Perth, where we went for a cycle ride around Rottnest Island. We had a swim in the beautiful clear sea, and stroked a little quokka!! It really is a beautiful island.

All in all we had the most amazing trip which was made much easier by having our Kalixa Pay card. Just can’t wait to do it all again!

It's never too late to take a Gap year

My name's George - I'm separated, retired and kids flown the nest I decided to take life into my own hands and set off on a slightly belated Gap year.

Before I left I signed up for my Kalixa Pay card which was an easy process and I loaded my money in Pounds Sterling onto the card. The card had come recommended which is always a good sign in my book. It appealed because it wasn’t tied to my main bank account plus even better it meant I didn’t have to worry about carrying lots of different currencies on me whilst I was away.

India was my first destination followed by a stroll around South East Asia where I visited Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and Laos.  I used the card all over the place and it was always reliable in the shops. There was always an ATM nearby meaning I could always withdraw local currency if I really needed the cash. I loved the fact I got free SMS alerts when my card was used, letting me know what my latest balance was which helped me keep track of my travel budget. Topping up was also a piece of cake – I mostly used my phone to transfer funds across from my current account to my Kalixa account meaning I could always access my cash on the go.
With organising visas, hostels for the night and keeping up with the youngsters on the backpacker circuit (I outpaced them in some instances just for the record) - it meant I had one less thing to worry about and could just relax and enjoy my trip! My son is living in Barcelona at the moment so I’ve recommended Kalixa Pay to him for use when he travels around Central Europe – it also means I’ll be able to transfer money to him easily using the handy Wallet to Wallet feature.

For me though the adventure continues! Next stop America!

If you have any interesting stories about your travels with your Kalixa Pay card, then email us the details (plus pics) to mystory@kalixa.co.uk. We'll even credit £100 onto your card if we feature your story!

If you'd like to get a Kalixa Card, apply online and you'll receive the card within 5-7 days

We asked 2,000 British holiday-makers about their spending activity abroad...

As much as we all try to stick to a budget when we go on holiday, our research into the holiday habits of Brits abroad reveals things don’t always go to plan, as shown in the handy infographic below..

This can be down to a combination of things such as getting confused about exchange rates, underestimating costs, being unaware of hidden payment charges from our banks or simply getting lost in the moment and losing our spending inhibitions when abroad.

Life is for living and there seems to be a growing tendency to embrace the holiday spirit which is great, so long as it doesn’t come at a huge cost to our personal finances further down the line.

Proper planning, budgeting and knowing our finances are secure can help to ensure a well-deserved break is enjoyed with that all-important peace of mind. The Kalixa Pay prepaid MasterCard® can help provide that peace of mind, offering a simple, cost effective and secure solution to spending – both at home and abroad.
We asked 2,000 British holiday makers about their spending activity abroad. This is what they said....

Our study of 2000 British holiday-makers revealed that:
  • 55% say that they usually take their spending money abroad in the form of cash
  • 65% say that keeping their holiday money secure while abroad is a constant concern
  • 43% say that 'common sense flies out the window' where money is concerned when on holiday
  • 25% don't save ahead for their foreign holidays, relying on credit cards to get by
  • 25% take 3 months or longer to pay off their holiday overspending
  • £600 is the average amount saved for a typical 2 week holiday abroad
  • £150 is the amount by which the average Brit will go over budget while on holiday
  • 1 in 10 spend all their holiday money within 2 days of arrival
  • 30% of British tourists blow their entire budget in under 5 days
  • The average Brit runs out of money 7 days into a 2 week break
